Take an active role in the work of the NM Alliance by joining one of the committees listed below. It is a great way to meet others, share your ideas and expertise, and make a contribution. Advocacy Committee
Chairperson: Patsy Nelson
Vice Chair: Jennifer Dunstan

The purpose of the Advocacy Committee is to promote school-based health care in order to influence public policy and create social change through garnering support of policymakers, schools, communities, state agencies, organizations, and individuals. 

The Committee will:

  • Keep abreast of policy developments at the national and state level;
  • Make recommendations to the board/ED as to the organization’s position and subsequent actions needed regarding legislative policy and funding issues; 
  • Help establish the priorities for advocacy efforts at the legislature;
  • Speak on behalf of the organization regarding legislative policy/funding requests;
  • Research and review data on benefits of school-based health care;
  • Oversee, guide development of, and deliver clear, concise messages, including in a legislative packet, that describe the benefits of school-based health care; and
  • Develop and maintain relationships with potential supporters and partners.

Behavioral Health Committee
Chairperson: Dan Rifkin
Vice Chair: Nancy Passikoff

The purpose of the Behavioral Health Committee is to support SBHCs in the delivery of quality behavioral health services, foster collaboration between school and SBHC behavioral health providers, and advocate for the behavior health needs of New Mexico students.

The Committee will:

  • Improve understanding of the need for student behavioral health services;
  • Provide behavioral health resources for SBHC and school professionals Keep abreast of policy developments at the national and state level;
  • Promote collaboration between SBHC, school, and community providers to enhance the behavioral health care of New Mexico students;
  • Encourage integrative care by behavioral health and primary health care providers; and
  • Work with the Behavioral Health Collaborative, local behavioral health collaborative, and the Statewide Entity to ensure SBHC behavioral health services are recognized are incorporated into those organizations’ behavioral health services and plans.

Native American Committee
Chairperson: Nancy Passikoff
Vice Chair: Kimberly Ross-Toledo

The purpose of the Native American Committee is to document and promote the unique challenges and benefits of providing school-based health care for Native American youth. 

The Committee will:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with New Mexico’s Tribes, Native American SBHCs, and Native American youth-serving organizations;
  • Recruit Native American members to the organization;
  • Research and provide guidance to the organization regarding Native American school-based health care needs/data, best practices, and promising practices; and
  • Assist with development of materials and guidelines for Native American school-based health care.

Resource Development Committee
Chairperson: Susan Wilger
Vice Chair: TBD

The purpose of the Resource Development Committee is to oversee and advise on the organization’s fundraising activities and overall resource agenda.  This may include corporate sponsorships, government grants and contracts, foundation and local grants, endowment and planned giving, individual giving, social enterprise, membership dues, and other strategies.

The Committee will:

  • Provide input and leadership to ensure sufficient funds are raised to support annual operations and ensure future sustainability, and
  • Determine other fundraising goals and efforts to support activities that meet the mission of the organization. 

SBHC Support Committee
Chairperson: Paula LeSueur
Vice Chair: Marsha Souers

The purpose of the SBHC Support Committee is to provide technical assistance and support to school-based health center staff. 

The Committee will:

  • Recruit members from SBHCs;
  • Promote the benefits of membership in the organization;
  • Assess the needs of SBHC staff through obtaining input from SBHC staff;
  • Use the assessment data to develop regional trainings and meetings to provide technical assistance and support to SBHCs; and
  • Oversee communication with SBHCs.
