We hope that this page will help your SBHC become skilled in providing Medicaid outreach and enrollment. By “outreach,” we mean strengthening your skills in reaching out the community to let it know the importance of Medicaid and that families can sign up for Medicaid through your SBHC. By “enrollment,” we mean strengthening your skills with processing the PE/MOSAA applications; i.e., enrolling families.
What is Medicaid?
In New Mexico the program is called New Mexikids, although sometimes families call this insurance “Medicaid.” This is a program by which the state provides low or no-cost insurance plans for children up to age 19. Many families, even if they have middle incomes, qualify.
The Human Services Department's (HSD) Medical Assistance Division administers this low or no–cost insurance program. There are health insurance programs available for children, families, women/pregnant women, students, adults, small businesses, etc.
Why is health insurance important?
Medicaid benefits eligible families because they receive important health services, and it benefits providers because they can get reimbursed for the health services they provide.
